High West Campfire

IMG_2078May, the beginning of summer. During the rest of this beautiful month, BWG will be featuring and reviewing some of our favorite summertime whiskeys. We started off with the award winning Kilchoman Machir Bay, and we continue with another award winning whiskey, High West Campfire. This very different American Whiskey is a blend of bourbon, rye and peated scotch. It recently won a “Drammie” award for “Most Innovative New Whiskey.” After sampling this curious bottling, its easy to see why. Campfire has a lot of different, almost opposite flavors going on, from the nose, right through the finish; fresh honey, melon marmalade, beach wood smoke, a clean, grassy, ashiness. There seems to be a definite flavor progression of bourbon first, then rye and finally scotch. This well crafted whiskey is made specifically for the American summertime camping tradition. On your next wilderness excursion, a bottle of High West Campfire with its smooth, long and warming finish will serve you well… Locally available for $50. Rating: 88/100
