Old Pogue

photoOld Pogue is a Kentucky distillery who’s history dates back to just after the civil war. They prominently feature their place in the colorful history of American whiskey on their website. It’s an interesting read for any history or whiskey buff. They currently offer three different whiskies. BWG recently got to sample their Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey; the Old Pogue Master’s Select. This bourbon was created using the original recipe that dates back to the origin of Old Pogue. Classic bourbon nose and palate profiles of maple, vanilla and oak are up front and rich. The oak is freshly vibrant and there’s a warm cardamom woodsy type flavor on the back end. This is a good, solid bourbon, with just a few more layers of complexity this hand-crafted small batch bourbon could be great. Locally available at Gates Circle Liquors for $43. Rating:85/100

*Old Pogue is not currently available on the Gates Circle website. However, it can be purchased in-store. The above link is to their contact info. As soon as it is available to purchase through their website, BWG will adjust the link.
